Jo Anne Yada (known as Ms. Y. to her students) is a local art teacher who works for the Alameda Music Project after-school program at Maya Lin Elementary. She has worked as a substitute teacher for AUSD and has become connected with school communities all over the Island. She loves telling her kindergarteners about David Bowie, Aretha Franklin, and The Ramones, connecting visual arts with music.
After a career as a museum educator in Fresno and San Jose, she now teaches art camps for kids during school breaks at Rhythmix Cultural Works and through the Alameda Recreation and Parks Dept.
In addition to teaching art to kids, she loves re-creating Mid-Century craft projects with grown-ups, and curates gallery shows at InkBlot Gallery, where she is a co-owner.
Jo Anne was voted "Best Artist" for 2014 in Alameda Magazine.
